Work

I was working today just minding my own business when a three pound sledge hammer jumped out and smacked the end of my left ring finger. I could not believe the pain that this inflicted at first I almost threw up on the floor from the initial pain and then I almost passed out because of the lack of breathing that this smack caused. I don't think that I have ever had such pain caused by a hit to the finger. Maybe I haven't ever smashed a finger with a sledge hammer either.

This all occured before lunch today so probably around 11:30 a.m. and it is almost 4 o'clock and it is still throbbing. May be broken may not, and if it is I guess the only thing to do is suffer through the pain and the swelling that most likely with follow.

That's where it got hit, and it wasn't a direct hit to the fingernail either but rather a whack to the side of the finger which suprisingly didn't break a nail at all. But I am sure it will build up some pressure underneath the nail that I will have to relieve in the next few days.

At least my boss let me go out and buy a split, that the company will pay for, wow $2.10. Thanks Berk. So I don't keep hitting it against things unknowingly and sending shots of pain up my left arm.

I guess just the joys of working on a Tuesday at AmeriFill International, Inc. Oh yeah we did finally get the company bought out by some new investors so we are no longer Sorenco, Labs. But that doesn't stop us from hitting our hands with hammers or lfiting things wrong and over stressing our backs.

Well that about how life went to day.

Talk to you later.

weekends without the kids

I decided weekends without the kids really do suck this morning. Ok i always liked sleeping in, but it's really only good when you do it because of need not just because you're lazy and don't want to get out of bed. I always think on Saturday mornings that I should get to sleep in but for some reason Matthew and Ariana haven't figured out that the best sleep of the week is on Saturday morning from 7:30 on. They like to wake up at the butt crack of dawn and come into the bedroom really queitly and just sit at the edge of the bed staring. Ok they are really cute but this can be utterly freaky, I mean imagine waking up and still being drowsy and you turn over and there, 2 inches from your face is your six year old daughter and the instant you turn over she says "Hi dad can I watch tv?" TV is the last thing on my mind what I'm thinking about is what the ....? Where am I? Who's this face staring at me? Oh then life comes back into my body and I realize it's Ari she's up way to early and she wants to watch cartoons.

Then after a few minutes the monster comes in, and for some reason he always wants to watch "cars". It's a funny movie and all but come on starting at 7:30 he would watch that movie constatly all day if I would let him until bed time at 8:30. This is more than a mere infactuation, this kid is possessed. Everything he owns has to do with cars, I mean everything. We cleaned out the toybox a few weekends ago and found, literally 200 cars. But that's all right a kid's got to love something.

Well back to why I don't like the weekends without the kids. I have my kids every night after work and it's been that way, just Ariana, Matthew, and I for almost 3 years now. I miss them. I only don't have them 2 nights every 14 days. Ya I say sometimes I need a break, but that's just me complaining and getting overstressed. I love those two kids they are the best. We love doing everything together. And weekends that I don't have them I always think, great I will be able to clean the house, wash the dishes, laundry, maybe some maintenance work at the apartments. None of that every really solidifies rather I kind of just mope around the house thinking how much longer until they come home.

I love this photo, they are the best of friends.

Matthew and Grandpa taking a "shower" by the pool

Matthew's expression just seems so priceless, "grandpa cooking oh great". But really Dad you cook great and we are all always glad for your breakfasts.

Funny Tuesday

Two very funny things happened today one by Matthew Levie and the other by Ariana Chanel.

I was sitting at the computer looking over some blogs, stalking if you will. I just happened to be on my sister Sarah's blog (one of the best blogs to stalk especially if you have a dry sense of humor like her). I got the part on her page where there are pictures of her 5 kids and I was asking Matthew who they were. Now it has been a little while since he saw his cousins. We have been hanging out with a friend that has a boy and girl and Matthew called each boy cousin Kaylen and all 3 girl cousins were Rylee. I corrected him with their correct names then had to find a picture of the whole family so that he could tell me who Sarah and Damian were. When I pointed to Sarah he said and I quote "that is a mom". Ok I guess that is really right and when I asked him who Damian was he just said very resounding (like duh if she's a mom) "he's a dad". He says really funny things and can't always remember names but always has something to say.

After that I went into the kitchen and was throwing some garbage away when Ariana approached me asking me if I could help her undress one of her barbies. I have never been good at dressing or undressing these stupid dolls and then I noticed which one of her barbies she was undressing. Her aunt Sarah gave her a "Peruvian" barbie a while back, one of those collectors dolls with the peruvian braids and everything. I proceeded to try and convince Ari that this was not one of the barbies that she should really "play" with but it was to no avail she just told me "Dad they are just action fingers" I said they are what "action fingers dad they are for playing with". I couldn't help but laugh at the funny things that she says even though she is almost 6 she still cracks me up everyday.

Well got to go, see you all later.

Easter

We got to go to St. George last weekend and we just had a great time. The kids love all of their family down in St. George so much and they got to meet a new lady friend of one of my little brothers, Maddy. Maddy, along with their newest aunt Becca, made for some very fun conversations and also hanging out. Aunt Becca already has Matthew won over, he talks about her all of the time and loves to see her whenever he gets the chance.

Even when Michael is in a photo with Becca, he always says that Becca is in the picture first and of course later says that Michael is also. Sorry Michael he does love you he just has a "crush" on his aunt Becca, and what two year old wouldn't she is a great aunt and enjoys the kids a ton.

The first night that I was there I sort of pawned the kids off on my Dad, he does really good with Ariana and Matthew also. (I think this is why I love going to St. George so much, free baby sitting and the kids enjoy it also). Eric and I went to a movie, "Fast and Furious", they trick you into seeing it by putting Jordana Brewster in it. She is only in it for a few scenes and that doesn't make up for the other hour and a half of crappy movie that you are then forced to watch. When I got home, at 11 o'clock, I was sure that the kids would be asleep. They weren't which was all right I guess Daniel and Maddy had just been there so they were up playing with them.

Saturday, I had made plans with my Dad to go and get in a few games of racquetball at the Palms. Now let me say Dad has been playing racquetball as long as I can remember. We lived in Valdez which just seemed to have a surplus of funds so they had some really nice free city facilities. Like there were two racquetball courts in the Elementary school with a very large changing room, possibly nicer than the facility at the city swimming pool that was located inside the high school. (It will be hard to put the kids into the Utah school system, way under funded and way overcrowded after being raised on such luxury in Alaska).

Anyways we went to play racquetball and had a very good time the final scores were 3-1 in games won. Of course Dad won three but it is always fun to go and release some energy and also it makes it that much better to at least beat your arch nemesis once. I will have to keep up the games whenever I go down, he will be getting older so maybe I can pull off a few more wins.

We will have to see if he will keep playing or not, and I forgot to show him how to blog so that we could start hearing and remembering some of his very off the wall stories. Like has anyone heard about how he helped build the apartments when he was just three years old? Or what about the friend he shot in the butt? Love you Dad, and if anyone reads Becca and Michael's blog they will know that yes that 2 am conversation on Saturday night was ended because we woke up my dad or he was already awake and he came out to remind us that it was very late. I do love you Dad you always make the best of any situation.

One last thing, I stayed a little later than I should have on Sunday because we had just enough people to play a round of "five crowns" (my moms favorite game). We played with all of those that we could get these were those that played and order of how they sat around the table; Dad, Daniel, Maddy, Mom, Paul and Eric. Yes this was Maddy's first time playing and she came in second place it was amazing she was ahead of almost all the Goold's the whole game pretty much until the last few hands. Good job Maddy hope that luck never runs out.

Oh and it was fun to finally watch Eric kick Daniel's butt, he must have pinned him in about 3 seconds flat. I honestly never thought I would see the day that happened, it was really funny. In front of Daniel's girlfriend even, man that must have been embarrassing.

New favorite past time

yes this will probably change in the next few weeks, but I found something that is really fun to watch. Hockey, probably not on television, but I went to a semi-pro hockey game here in Salt Lake with some friends this last weekend. What a great sport!!! If you were there you will know what I mean, if not let me tell you about hockey. Who in there right mind would know how the sport is played sometimes they call a penalty "boarding" this is when you hit someone up against the boards, well it seems like every two seconds someone is getting hit up against the boards. So I am not sure how a ref can call one thing boarding and not everything boarding. Or "slashing" this is when you intentionally use your stick to "slash" another player. Hello isn't that why you have a stick so that you can use it against another player?

The best is yet to come, everyone knows about how big that a hockey rink is, well there are three skranny referees and at least 12 players between the two teams playing, and yes the players look like they should be playing football only they have on ice skates. So the best comes after there has been some slashing and boarding. What proceeds is what looks like an very staged brawl. It got the point where there were at least 4 players on the ground while the other members where just trying to hold everyone off. This brawl type will go on, yes they are throwing uppercuts and hooks at each other, once it looks like the skranny refs can get in there they start to break it up. I actually thought that I saw a few punches hitting the refs, but I guess that this comes with the job. So these refs have to break up these big huge players and decide which ones get penaltized and which ones get thrown out. Well you would think ok I knew that they fought a little in hockey, no this was not the end and this was only midway through the first or second period. What looks like happens is after the first brawl there are just a bunch of mini brawls that proceed. And little to my surprise the refs really don't do much until after the fact because obviously they don't have a very good dental plan. So what turned out to be a rather fun and new experience for me turned into something really really awesome. I paid $10.00 to see some really good fights, probably better than the ones that the E-Center usually has.

And towards then end it was just an all out fight against this little man from the Anchorage Aces and what looked like a much larger man from the Utah Grizzlies. One whole end of the rink was devoted to this throw the gloves off, beat the hell out of each other fight. It went on for a couple of minutes really until finally they both ended up on the ice and the Grizzly was literally on top of the Ace just wailing on him. And ya they had instigated a fight, those two, earlier on in the game.

I was so enthused after this game that I can't wait for the next Grizzly game, which yes it just so happens to be against the Aces, and it is during the playoffs. Man hockey rules, I might not understand it and probably wouldn't have liked it had it not been for the real devotion that these players obviously have for this sport.

unemployment

So today has been a really good day. At work today I had to setup a conference type room for seventy for a Monday morning meeting. Then we were told that we couldn't come to work on the weekend because we were all being fired tonight, Friday. Then on Monday morning all of us are going to be rehired under the new company, AmeriFill. We are no longer owned by the richest family in Utah. They have been good to us for the last year and a half, they have at least kept funding us until we could find someone that would back us and be willing to make things better at work. They were never willing to sell our company out from under us without some sort of guarantee that the employees wouldn't all be fired. We have actually been very lucky and we are all grateful to the Sorenson's for the care and determination to not let another 100 people lose become unemployed in Utah.

I am looking forward to Monday because the President of our company and the future company approached me on Thursday asking how well my crew is at destroying things. (Maybe that isn't really the best question, or what you want the President of the company asking you). We have to get up on the outside of the building and remove the "Sorenco" signs from off the outside walls and put up the banner with our new companies name. I guess that we really won't be destroying anything but rather changing things.

Well I am going to enjoy my weekend of unemployment and be back at it on Monday morning early.

Blogging

I figured out today what I really enjoy about blogging.

I don't really like the typing and having to think up things to write, rather what I enjoy most is coming back to the blog after blogging and reading the posts. I find the most joy out of reading the praise that other people give me. Keep it up, bring on all the nice things you can say about me I love it. Usually it seems like the comments that are left on a blog are sometimes funnier and nicer than what is left as the blog.

I have been trying to get the kids to a decent hour every night. I don't know why I chose 8:30 pm but that seems like a really good time to me and it still gives me a little bit of time to unwind and get to bed before to late. Or what usually happens is that I sit down on the computer at about 9:30 or 10:00 and find a friend online and chat with them for a very long while way past what is a decent hour and have a great conversation.

Ok i have to mention one thing that I ended up talking with a friend about last night. I am 28 right now and will be 29 in August. My oldest sister is going to be 35(?) this year and I have to let everyone know the funniest thing that happens to us, we thing we are adults, whenever we end up at our parents house. My dad always wanted us to go to bed a respectable hour when we were growing up so that we would get our 8 hours of sleep and succeed in school. Well whenever we are at home on vacation at the parents house he still tells us at 10 or 11 o'clock that it is bedtime. Now I love my dad and I mean him no disrespect it just find it very funny. He will even do the same thing whenever he is up here in Salt Lake. I know his intentions mean well and he just wants to see the eyes with less bags under them. It is just so silly that it makes me laugh hard everytime I think of him telling us it is bedtime. Because if any of you know him intimately you will know that he is the one in the family that has no bedtime and stays up all night watching tv. He actually has this aparatus that is connected to the tv that will transmit the sound to some wireless headphones so that my mother, who is a school teacher can sleep while he watches late night talk shows on tv. These two crack me up so much, I think sometimes she asks him to go and watch tv in another room because even though it doesn't have any sound it still lights up the whole room and she has a real hard time sleeping. That's who I should convince to blog, I would bet that his stories and memories would be the most fun to read.

New mission, next time I go to St. George, show Dad how to blog, it really isn't that hard unless you want to post photos. Since he did get a new computer finally that doesn't take 45 minutes to boot up.

Well that's all today just more ramblings for another day.

Economy!!!

Well I have to say that things have been going rather well for the last few weeks, it has been a long time since I have had the time to post but I hope to get back on the bandwagon again. I was contemplating what to blog about tonight while I was thinking about work, pretty much my favorite past time while I am at home.

Over the last few months we have gone through some personnel changes at work. It is weird I got a new boss about six months ago and either this guy is just a loose cannon or else he really knows what he is doing. In the last six months we have gone through at least 5 RIF (Reduction in Force). He was saying today, at the end of the day when he was just looking worn out and dejected, how over the last six months he has let more than 100 people go. Seems like a lot but then again we were running on a pretty huge amount of unnecessary people. I sort of hate these days because they really give you no advance notice all that you know is that if you get called to the corporate office without any real explanation of why it is probably because you are going to be fired.

We aren't as bad as some companies, my sanitary welders wife was going to have a baby and two weeks before she was due she was laid off. They didn't even pay here any severance or compensate her for any of her vacation, sick or anything (just canned her on the spot). We waited two weeks after an active military personnel got back from Iraq before we let him go. We have to have some heart let them sort of get back into the swing of "normal" life before we let them go.

I was just thinking today how vicious life is getting and how ruthless that humans can be. I don't think we do these sort of things because we are bad people but rather due to the nature of business and the need to make money.

I just go into work everyday and enjoy my job and try to be as productive as possible. I feel that if I am making the company some money maybe that can justify my job for a little bit longer. There really isn't any more time for idleness at work because we have cut so deep into the workforce that everyone has to stay busy all day just to get everything done in an 8 hour shift that needs to get done.

Does it really have to do with the economy though or is that just a good excuse for companies to start performing much more efficiently? Is is sad for those that are let go? But as my boss always says "I might be selfish but I would like to stay employed for as long as possible and I might do everything possible to keep it that way".

News

I was watching Dateline tonight. Ya I know why? I am almost to the point where I am so sick of watching the news. It just seems so negative and unfair but then again has it ever not been that way. They were interviewing the mother of the octuplets, also mother of 6 other children, and trying to get her side of the story for once. Seems like an important side to have instead of just some tv commentator that is very opinionated.

I don't know if I agree fully with the whole idea of a single mother having 14 children but then again I am also pro-choice of letting people do whatever they want to do. This woman, whether rightfully or not, has been accused of many things lately. Some of them very harsh things and are they all true, probably not.

I did see another good interview last night on ESPN, and ya he was clearing up some things that he lied about in the past. Yes he knowingly used steroids and lied about it. Does that make him a better person because he came out 6 years later and admitted to using illegal substances? It might not make the crime right but at least he feels good about himself and makes him feel like he can finally be honest with himself and probably feels really really bad for what he has done but the past is the past live it up for mistakes. How many other professional athletes are hiding and not being up front about what they did? It almost seems like he was committing a crime by making himself look better so he could be traded for more money or recieve a higher pay for playing baseball? To what extent is this sort of thing tolerated?

The governor of Utah, Jon Huntsman, is trying to get some legislation passed for civil union couples in the state of Utah, that was also on the news today. Why is this state so opposed to civil union and same sex couples? Do we think that are strong biases and opinions are going to change the whole world? What makes their union any different than a heterosexual marriage? Why should they be denied the rights that couples are given in this state? Are they doing something illegal? Just because you are in favor of civil union rights does not mean you agree with what they are doing. Our Governor is taking a lot of flack from his party about this whole issue but what is really right or wrong? Who is to decide these matters, I for one definitely don't want to be one that decides someone else's rights.

Then we go back to the mother who really just wants to have a large family. What the freak is the big deal? She has been a single mother with six children for how long now, has the state tried to take the kids away from her up to this point for negligence? Is she really on welfare or not who cares? Have you ever been on welfare? It isn't a pretty thing and they can come back and take all of it back, legally, years later if you lied or cheated on any of the forms. Is she trying to cheat the system and get more money by having more kids? Please she already has six healthy kids that seems like enough if you were trying to work the system, why would anyone knowingly want more and 8 if she didn't really want them? This is what's wrong with our society, we always look for the bad in people and never give them the benefit of the doubt. We just assume that people in general are horrible people and turn a batted eye at real criminals.

Oh one other thing I saw on the news today, the state of Utah will probably be allowing 500 inmates out of the Gunnison maximum security prison due to budget cuts and over crowding. To bad we couldn't build that bigger prison and keep some of the real criminals locked up. Good luck with that.

Spies...Killing...and the Movies

I saw this really good movie tonight titled "Taken" I am not the type of guy how goes and ruins the movies for people that haven't seen them yet but this part was in the previews. This was an excellent movie, sort of like a cross between a James Bond and a Jason Bourne? Anyways Liam Neeson is the protaganist and he does an excellent job of acting the part. I think the last movie that I saw him in was that lame first Batman that came out a few years ago his role in that movie was so terrible but this movie "Taken" wow I would say a must see and I do believe it was only rated PG-13 so maybe more acceptable for larger crowds.

The part that I liked the most is the part that was shown on almost all of the previews where he states over the phone after the kidnappers have taken his daughter "if it is money you want I don't have any but what I do have is a very specific set of skills, a set of skills that make a man like me a nightmare for men like you" or pretty much along those lines. That has to be the best line that you could say to someone on the phone that has just kidnapped your daughter, because the following line just made it all that better "I will hunt you down, I will find you and I will kill you". Pretty much without batting an eye, I think it must be every boys fantasy growing up to be a spy, because that is just like the coolest thing ever. It has to be the type of society that we live in that sets us up for these types of hopes and dreams.

I wanted to be spy for a long time maybe not all the killing but rather a preventor, someone who stops bad things from happening. Well if I could recommend a movie to anyone who reads this blog it would be "Taken" very well put together.

What to do

All right I don't know what to do with myself at night. My sister, Sarah the really funny one, decided that Blogging wasn't "the most important thing anymore". She gave these five, what I thought were pretty lame, excuses like her kids were complaining about her amount of blogging. Come on is that really a valid excuse to not blog, hello your blog was like an addiction for some people. My advice kids are going to get embarrassed by their parents all on during life better it be early in life than later. Probably going to be more traumatic for them that you used their lives for one year and then they are going to realize that they are going through withdraws without all the chatter about them. So my advice on this one is just keep up the blogging and then they won't be so traumatized in the future. Another "excuse" she had was that she wanted to watch some network television that was in its prime. Well I have seen those shows, they've got nothing on your blog not even close. They make you laugh or cry for the moment nothing like what some of those memories bring back to us Sarah. By the way, you forgot the only show on Television that is even worth watching "RENO 911" ya if you haven't heard of it or seen it you have to watch a few episodes "lost american idol" come on your giving up blogging for this crap. Your killing me here maybe "the office" is getting close to worthiness of not blogging but those other shows and the French "porn" probably doesn't even get above american idol. Ya you should come back to blogging but you know I guess you get everyone started on something then you just give in the towel, more important things like family, friends, tv, housework, reading while bathing.

Ok you probably have some pretty valid excuses for not blogging it was taking over your life. You would blog when you came out to Utah on vacation. I was pretty appalled at the amount of dedication that you perscribed to your blog. I am so dumb I can't even figure out how post a picture and then put a caption under it so that it doesn't look half retarded. But I do appreciate the last year of blogging that you have given us, it has lightened many otherwise dark days. I do love you Sarah and give those kids and family our love while you are spending more time with them baking them cookies.

Did we expect anything else?

Ok it was all right the first time, but come on two tax evaders? What the H**l, are all democrats like this? Let me think if I was behind $140,000 on my taxes I would probably be dead.

Why is it that our "honest change everything" President is doing the same things that have been done always. I don't think in the less than 2 weeks that he has been in office he has changed anything but rather followed the stereotypes of Washington. IE sworn to change everything and then when he is in power just go back on his word and do the exact things that he said he was willing to change.

Buddy, a simple down to earth suggestion, Change Has to Start with you. Don't expect any change from us peons if you aren't going to change anything yourself because what it looks like is you were just willing to lie in the election to get elected and once there you actually have no intention of following through with what you "promised to do".

Probably a good man but come on how far can the "simple mistakes" really go. Clean it up buddy you are now what some say is the most powerful position given a man on this earth. Do what is right for once and quit being a politician.

Blackmail and squiggly straws

Today I had a very interesting experience. My five year old daughter, Ariana, learned a new life skill which is, if you are only five you might have figured out what blackmail is but you are definitely still to small to make it work on your parents.

Anyone who knows Ariana knows that she by far is the sweetest little kid alive. She might be sweet but that sassy get back at you attitude is starting to kick-in. Today she wanted me to get what she wanted. It started out with her asking me to let her sit in the far back seat of the car. I said no because her car seat was in the middle seat. She proceeded to offer me $100.00 of I would let her sit in the back. I said that's ok I don't really need $100.00 to which she said but "you would be really rich". I couldn't help but give into the richness deal and say I would let her sit in the back. To my advantage she also has a memory that won't last more than 5 minutes, by the time we got back to the car she had forgotten completely that she wanted to sit in the far back all together.

What came about later was the true genius of the blackmail. She really wanted to go to a friends house and play. I was really not in the mood to take her but I didn't tell her that upfront rather I said I would think about it. She then came back at me and said I will do whatever you want if you take me to my friends house and if you don't I won't clean up my room. I said that is fine I will just throw your toys in the garbage. She said well that wouldn't be fair at all you can't just throw my toys away. I said I am only going to throw them away if you won't clean them up after playing with them. She couldn't really comprehend how she had gotten wooped so bad but just kept telling me that wasn't fair at all.

Later, after we had arrived home, Matthew, the two year old, said he wanted to eat some rice so I said go and get a spoon. He went to he kitchen while I was doing something else and came back and said "this?" as he was holding s squiggly straw. I couldn't help laughing out loud at which he proceeded to laugh. He can be so silly sometimes.

So what we have learned today is that if you are five years old the only person that you can blackmail is probably your two year old little brother. But definitely don't try blackmailing your parents because what might happen is you will lose all your toys because your parents aren't going to clean them up.

Is this really ok?

I was just debating on things to blog about today and was reading some headlines on Yahoo.com. Just like always these days on the News or on the internet the only thing that is out there is about President Obama and anything and everything to do with him and his administration. No I did not vote for him but I do wish him the best because this country needs something right now.

Today his Treasury Secretary was approved by the 2/3 of the Senate and appointed (Timothy Geithner). Now I have nothing against this man, haven't even heard about him ever in my life but wouldn't appointing someone to be the Treasury Secretary that had made "careless mistakes" in 4 consecutive years on his income taxes. This man is going to be heading the Treasury department and he doesn't understand the tax codes. I think if I mades some "careless mistakes" 4 years in a row I would be in some federal prison and not be appointed to a Cabinet position.

Come on people are we serious? He was president of the New York Federal Reserve Bank, he doesn't understand the tax codes. Please. I don't believe that this country is in so much of a financial crisis that we have to go to this extreme. But hey maybe this could work out to our benefit. I just made the most money that I have ever made in one year in my entire life. Maybe with these hard to understand tax codes I can just make some "careless mistakes" and pay the same amount of taxes as last year and look forward to a bright free future.

Ok enough about that something good will come of all this. . . I hope. I just can't believe how stupid we are sometimes. Lets just keep playing the blame game, change everything and maybe that will make this whole mess solve itself. I just don't understand the human brain anymore and how it is that people think what they do. I gotta get out of here for some time, Canada you have any openings, Mexico estan libres?

Housework

You know it is time to do housework when you run out of tupperware for bowls. That means all the dishes are dirty and that now all the tupperware is dirty. Guess it is either time to go out and buy some more tupperware or else it is time to wash the dishes.

This is usually how I gauge time or necessity of housework. IF IT WILL SOON BE TIME FOR DINNER AND THERE ISN'T ANYTHING TO COOK IN OR EAT OFF OF. (note to self wash the dishes).

Boss Man

I got this really cool boss at work. They fired my last boss about 4 months ago and what a relief because he was the biggest jerk that I have ever met. Anyways back to the cool guy, he likes Family Guy, he has a very dry sense of humor and almost never takes anything seriously at work. Ok he does take things seriously at work but in a kind of way that my personality understands and I can cope with.

I think that I honestly have a sleeping disorder, if that is what insomnia is. I don't know what it is I just don't sleep well at night, ever. So he keeps suggesting to me that I try some sleeping pills, like doctor medicated Ambient or something of that nature. So I was writing SOP's all day yesterday and at about 2:30 in the afternoon he just happens to walk by my office when I had my head on my desk thinking about the best way to state a procedure so that the rest of the company can understand it. He says to one of his other managers, "I told him he had to get some sleeping pills but instead he just decides to sleep at work." Of course he was joking, and when he noticed that I wasn't asleep he directed his attention to me and said "You should at least partially shut your office door if you are going to sleep at work." My nonchalant response was "If I shut it there is no possibility of you finding me in here sleeping." He just laughed at that and said if you go Paul then I am going also. It really is nice to have a boss that is easy to get along with and also appreciates the things that I am doing at work.

His favorite saying to us, his managers, is "Don't sweat the things you have no control over" he says that to us because over the last 4 months our Operations department has taken at least a 50% reduction in workforce. While other departments in the company feel it necessary to hire more people because there lazy employees can't multitask. It is very frustrating but not so bad when at least our own boss understands the necessity of good hard workers that are willing to do anything at the plant to help the company succeed. He just keeps telling us that someday they will get there reward and someone with some balls will open their eyes and realize who is really bringing the company down.

It is also fun to work at a plant that a friend once called the "Willy Wonka Factory" everyday is a new day and everyday brings new challenges and new accomplishments. To all those that don't enjoy there jobs, don't look for anything right now just stick it out and enjoy what you and "Don't sweat the things you have no control over".
